When Derek Fisher decided to come back for the 2013-14 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he did so with another playoff run, a chance at a sixth NBA championship, in mind.

This run, the 16th of his career, has already begun to set Derek apart from his peers and during OKC’s 92-89 Game 4 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night, D-Fish made postseason history.

Saturday’s game marked the 244th playoff contest that Derek has suited up for, tying him with former teammate Robert Horry for the most postseason appearances in NBA history.

Fish was asked about the record after the game and reflected on in a characteristically humble manner. He noted that his entire NBA career — the road he’s taken to the all-time mark — has been a blessing.

“Only when I’m asked about it or someone mentions it do I really think about just how crazy it is to me,” Derek said of matching Horry’s record. “Just never having imagined not just being in the NBA but just to have the history of experiencing the opportunities I’ve been blessed to have.”

But Derek doesn’t plan to stop in the area of 244, as the Thunder still have a number of games to play this postseason to reach his ultimate goal, one D-Fish is reminded of every time he dons his Oklahoma City jersey.

“The reason why my number is No. 6 is because I don’t want to wake up from the dream,” said the five-time NBA Champ. “I want it to keep going. So regardless of how many games in the playoffs I’ve played in, the only thing that matters is we figure out a way to win 16 of them this year and then I’ll think about the number after that.”

Oklahoma City has 14 playoff wins to go this year after edging Memphis 92-89 in overtime on Saturday night behind a 32-point outburst from backup point guard Reggie Jackson.

OKC has had its hands full with the physical Memphis front through this series but picked up a key road win in Game 4. While Jackson was on fire, playing 37 minutes and connecting on 11-of-16 shot attempts, No. 6 had no issue taking on an auxiliary role. Behind a great defensive effort, the Thunder took a 12-point lead into the final frame and appeared to be well on their way to a comfortable victory.

He buried a trifecta from the right wing and followed that up with a floater in the lane to knot the game at 80. On the other end, the Thunder smothered the Grizz down low to keep the game tied and force overtime.

In OT, it was more from Jackson and Kevin Durant. The two scored all 12 of OKC’s points in the extra period, including 8-of-8 shooting from the free-throw line to seal the victory and tie the series at 2-2.

D-Fish and the Thunder will host a pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday night in Oklahoma City. The tilt is set for a 9 p.m. EDT tipoff on NBA TV.
