Derek Fisher is headed back to Oklahoma City Thunder for another run at his sixth NBA title.

As they enter the homestretch of the season and get ready for the playoffs, the Thunder re-signed Derek on Monday, adding him to the mix after the All-Star break for the second time in as many seasons.

“We are excited to welcome Derek back to the Thunder organization,” OKC General Manager Sam Presti said. “He contributed to our team in various ways last season, and we are looking forward to him joining us again.”

Derek was waived by the Dallas Mavericks earlier this season after starting nine games and averaging 8.6 points and 3.4 assists per game. He is expected to back-up Russell Westbrook at point guard for the Thunder.

Last season, the Thunder signed Fish on March 21 to fill in for injured point guard Eric Maynor. He played in 20 regular season games down the stretch last year, averaging just over 20 minutes per game with 4.9 points and 1.4 assists per.

Fish played another 20 games for OKC in the postseason last year over 22 minutes, 6.3 points and 1.3 assists per game as the Thunder advanced to the NBA Finals, the eighth Finals trip of Derek’s 16-year career.

This year, D-Fish heads to OKC almost a full month earlier than he did last season after the Thunder traded Maynor to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

Thunder players were pleased to learn that Derek would be returning to OKC.
