Several weeks ago, a series of exclusive interviews were shot with Derek Fisher covering virtually aspect of his career. They’ve been released periodically over the course of the playoffs on DerekFisher2.com.
But perhaps none of them was more prescient than the clip airing today, "The Ingredients of Clutch."
After Derek turned in arguably the most impressive fourth quarter of his career in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the footage is all the more poignant. In it, No. 2 discusses how each of his shots — from 0.4 to the two critical three pointers he made in last year’s Finals — is the product of three things: His training, his experience, and his love for his team.
When Fisher came back after missing 62 games during the 2000-01 season – his jump shot became unstoppable. He shot 51% from three point range during the playoffs and it cemented his status on the team. I think while the injury was unfortunate, it gave him extra time to work on his jump shot and he was completely fresh for the playoffs while everyone else was dragging at the end of the season.
