Derek Fisher helped Kobe Bryant turn Thursday night’s showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat into one of the best backcourt performances of the season, as the duo combined for 53 points.

But the efforts were not enough for the Lakers, as the Heat outlasted Los Angeles 114-111 in overtime.

Fish scored 14 points on deadeye shooting, going 5-8 from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc. He also grabbed a pair of rebounds and doled out an assist in 34 minutes.

Derek’s 14 points were good for second on the evening, only to Bryant, as the Lakers’ one and two guards were one and two in scoring for the team.

No. 2 began the game with a back and forth scoring duel with Heat star Dwayne Wade.

D-Fish led it off by draining a three that tied the game at seven. He followed that up on LA’s very next posession with an assist to Andrew Bynum after a Miami miss.

At the other end, Fish fouled Wade, who hit two free throws. But No. 2 made up for his mistake right away by dropping a runner to give the Lake Show their two point lead back. After Wade went back to the line, sinking just 1 of 2, Fish dropped a soft jumper from about 19 feet and Los Angeles was up by three.

In that span of just one minute and 11 seconds, Fish scored seven points and assisted on two more. It was a sign of things to come. The game was close from pillar to post and featured 31 lead changes.

No. 2 hit his next three late in the fourth to bring the Lakers to within one. They were able to tie it before the buzzer on a Kobe Bryant shot and a Miami prayer by Wade missed, sending the game to overtime. But Miami outlasted LA in the extra session.

No. 2 and Los Angeles head up the east coast on Inerstate-95 tonight to take on the Charlotte Bobcats, who they beat by two earlier this year in LA. Derek scored nine points in that win.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. PST on KCAL.

On Sunday, the Lakers will go back to Florida for an NBA Finals rematch with the Orlando Magic, who they also beat earlier this season, 98-92.

Of course, the last time Derek and the Lakers made an extended stay in Orlando, this happened. Oh yeah and this.

The NBA Finals rematch tips off at 11:30 p.m on Sunday. and the game can be seen on ABC.
