Derek Fisher has hit a lot of big-time three-pointers in his career.
No matter what team the Lakers face on a given night, one can probably recall a clutch shot No. 2 has drained against that evening’s NBA foe.
The Miami Heat, who the Lakers take on Thursday night, are no different.
In the Lakers’ last meeting with Miami, in LA back on December 4th, the Lake Show found themselves down four points to the Heat with just nine seconds left.
With the game on the line, they turned to their crafty veteran leader D-Fish, who promptly buried a triple with four seconds to play, pulling the Lakers back within striking distance into a one-possession game.
Moments later, after Kobe Bryant hit the game-winner at the buzzer, D-Fish was the first to congratulate him.
"I had to remind myself this was a regular season game in mid-December. I was jumping on Kobe’s back like it was the Finals," he said.
Kobe got the glory, but it was the three by Fish that allowed it to happen.
"I don’t make those very often, so I was glad I was able to make one last night," Fish told the Los Angeles Times with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. "It was fitting that something happened after that to totally erase everyone’s memory of what I did."
Derek joked about being upstaged because it’s easy to see by now that for D-Fish it’s not about who gets the press, but who gets the victory. That night, the Lakers got the win and tonight, behind the leadership of No. 2, they’ll go for the season sweep of the Heat.
