The Los Angeles Lakers return to Tennessee tonight, facing off against the last team to beat them away from the Staples Center.
On February 1, the Memphis Grizzlies barely beat Derek Fisher and a Laker team that had played seven straight road games, 95-93. But the game between the two at the Staples Center on November 6 was a much different story. Fish went for 11 points, seven assists and three rebounds as Los Angeles thrashed the Grizzlies 114-98 in the Staples Center.
Since Memphis’ win on that first day of February, the teams have taken divergent paths. The Grizz have lost six of their last eight, whereas the Lakers have won five of their ensuing seven.
Fish has been strong in those outings, averaging 10.6 points per game in the five wins, four of which have been won without Derek’s backcourt mate Kobe Bryant. Kobe is expected to return from a five-game absence tonight in The River City.
Tonight’s game is the last time the Lakers will face the Grizzlies this season. A win tonight would mark the third time in four years they’ve taken a season series from the Memphis.
