Derek Fisher found his shooting touch, going 3-6 from the field last night as the Lakers downed the Wizards, 115-103, in the nation’s capital.

For Fish, it was the third time in four games that he’s shot .500 or better. His outside statistics echoed the same pattern. Derek also got his stroke going from outside, hitting two of four three pointers, also the third time in five games he’s shot better than 50 percent from three-point land.

Derek did all his work in the first half, when the Lakers used two 30-point quarters to bury the Wiz. He found Pau Gasol for an easy layup just three minutes into the game, then followed that up on the next possession with a three pointer off a Kobe Bryant dime.

No. 2 reentered the game with five minutes left in the second quarter, and made his veteran presence known almost immediately, finding Shannon Brown for a slam.

Then, with the quarter winding down under a minute to play, Fish scored five points to the Wizards’ one, on a jump shot and another three, to give the Lakers a 16-point lead, one Washington wouldn’t come close to challenging the rest of the way.

Overall No. 2 dropped eight points and passed out two assists. He also had two swipes, both off bad passes from Washington’s Mike Miller and Randy Foye.

PUTTING ON A CLINIC
After meeting the President on Monday, Derek and a number of his Lakers teammates put on a clinic for elementary students on Monday at the Verizon Center.

NEXT UP
D-Fish and Co. continue romping through the East Coast, playing tonight in Indianapolis where they face the Indiana Pacers.

No. 2 seems to enjoy playing in the Hoosier state, scoring over ten points in each trip over the past two seasons. The Lakers are 3-1 against the Pacers since the beginning of the 2007 campaign. That year, Fish blew away his season scoring average, going for 17.5 points per game while passing out four assists.

Last season, although his scoring numbers came back to earth, at nine a game, he kept his assists numbers consistent, with four a game.

Lakers-Pacers tips off at 4:00 p.m. on the West Coast. It can be caught on KCAL-TV.
