Derek Fisher and the Los Angeles Lakers kicked off the New Year with back-to-back wins, including a massive blow out of the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night.

Even No. 2 got into the scoring act against Dallas, dropping ten points on a perfect night from behind the arc and the charity stripe.

D-Fish went 2-2 from deep and 4-4 from the foul line in just twenty minutes. He scored five points in the first quarter as the Lakers jumped to a 17-point lead.

Derek scored another five in the third quarter, and went to the bench with LA up 34 points near the end of the third period. Fish also added an assist, rebound and steal in the 131-96 victory.

On New Years’ Day while the end result was no different, the game was almost exactly opposite.

Fish scored six points, five in the first quarter as the Lakers struggled to keep pace with the Kings. It took a Kobe Bryant three at the buzzer for Los Angeles to escape with a 109-108 victory.

For the game No. 2 finished with three rebounds, two steals and an assist to go along with the six points.

UNSTOPPABLE KOBE
No. 24 was up to his old antics to start a new year, scoring 39 points and hitting a wide-open game-winning shot on New Years’ Day.

D-Fish, wasn’t surprised Kobe was that wide open.

"Stop Kobe from getting the ball?" Fish told the Orange County Register. "You mean him? That’s not going to happen. If you’re on defense, my advice is ‘Close your eyes,’ basically."

Of course, having spent so long with Bryant, all this is just plain routine.

"All the stuff he does, he can do," Fisher said. "He’s not just making it up. I’ve never seen him do anything that made me say, ‘Dang, did he just do that?’ We’ve seen him do it all, over and over."

NEXT UP
