While Derek Fisher is not best known for being a prolific scorer, he certainly seems to find it when the Los Angeles Lakers play the New Orleans Hornets.
Earlier this season, in a 104-88 Lakers win over New Orleans, Derek scored eight points, doing so in a season low 14 minutes.
Despite the limited time on the court, the eight spot was Fish’s second lowest output in the score sheet against the Hornets in the past two years. D-Fish hasn’t been held below six points in the past nine games against New Orleans. And in those nine games, the Lakers are 6-3.
For the series over the past two years, Fish has averaged 12.5 points per game, more than three points better than his season averages over those two seasons. No. 2 has also been consistent on the glass, grabbing 2.3 rebounds and passing out three assists.
In what was one of his best games last year, Derek scored 19 points, dished out five assists and grabbed six rebounds. Despite the effort, the Lakers lost 116-105. It was their only loss to New Orleans last year.
In tonight’s game, D-Fish will not have to battle Chris Paul, one of the league’s best young point guards. Paul has missed the past seven games with an ankle injury and will not play tonight.
TIP-OFF
Fisher and the Lakers play the New Orleans Hornets tonight at 7:30 p.m. PST at the Staples Center. The game can be seen regionally on FOX Sports West.
