A Season-High Saturday

Almost every Lakers player got into the scoring act against Golden State on Saturday night, and for Derek Fisher, that meant a season high in points.

D-Fish dropped 13 on the Lakers, or ten percent of the 130 L.A. scored in their victory over the Warriors. He was one of seven Lakers to score in double figures.

He also added five assists while grabbing four rebounds, all on the defensive glass.

Sunday night,  No. 2 scored five points in a 106-87 blowout of the  winless New Jersey Nets.

For the Lakers it was their sixth straight victory, their second six-game winning streak already this year. At 13-3, they’re just a half-game back of the Phoenix Suns for first in the Pacific Division.

BENCH ROLE
Derek Fisher has played in every single game this year — except one.

In head coach Phil Jackson’s traditional Thanksgiving Day scrimmage, the Zen Master held Fish and Kobe Bryant out of the game, as he pitted the Lakers’ guards and small forwards against the big men.

And even without the two backcourt starters, it was no contest, as the little men won handily, 145-100.

Jackson says he hosts the scrimmage every Thanksgiving to promote team unity.

“We have a lot of guys that are here alone and they’re maybe from foreign countries and don’t have families in the area,” he said. “This is one of the things we do to kind of incorporate our group together.”

NEXT UP
Fish and the Lakers take on the New Orleans Hornets tomorrow night at home. The Lakers beat the Hornets in their last meeting, 104-88, in early November.
